Environmental management on cruise ships

Berlin, 08/11/2018 – When the new Mein Schiff 2 sets sail next year, TUI Cruises will have put six new ships into operation since 2014. Today it operates one of the most modern and eco-friendly fleets in the world. This growth is inevitably associated with the issue of sustainability at sea. TUI Cruises aims through continuous improvements to minimise the impact of tourism on the environment. Modern waste management contributes to achieving that aim.

Meier demonstrated that TUI Cruises now delivers a level of environmental performance that goes far beyond statutory requirements on the basis of its energy savings and emissions reductions figures. A state-of-the-art EAS reduces sulphur emissions by up to 99 percent and catalytic converters additionally reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by around 75 percent.

Frank Püttmann, Head of Public Policy TUI Group, presented the TUI sustainability strategy Better Holidays, Better World 2015-2020. It envisages a further ten percent reduction of CO2 emissions from the airlines, cruise ships and hotels. TUI also intends to offer ten million additional sustainable holidays every year and, with the TUI Care Foundation‘s help, it will continue to expand its CSR activities.
